About Joe Henderson

Joe Henderson (1937–2001) was one of the most influential tenor saxophonists in modern jazz, known for his work with Blue Note Records and later Grammy Award–winning recordings for Verve Records. Over his career he performed with artists including Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, McCoy Tyner, and Chick Corea. Performing with the Joe Henderson Quintet at Antone’s in Austin in 1986 was an important early career experience and part of Austin’s vibrant jazz scene during that period.
