Double Vision is a contemporary jazz quartet co-led by composers and improvisers Hank Hehmsoth (piano) and
John Mills (saxophone & flute). Blending original composition, modern swing, groove-driven improvisation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, Double Vision presents jazz as both a living tradition and an evolving art form.
Rooted in deep jazz lineage and propelled by bold new writing, the ensemble performs original works alongside selections from the modern jazz canon, creating programs that are sophisticated, emotionally resonant, and accessible to diverse audiences.

Hank Hehmsoth – Piano & Composer
As a celebrated pianist, composer, and cultural ambassador, Hank brings decades of experience as a jazz visionary and educator. Along with John Mills, Hank co-leads Double Vision, contributing original compositions and his distinctive harmonic and improvisational style to the group’s sound. His storied career includes collaborations with legendary musicians, award-winning compositions, and an unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of modern jazz.
John Mills – Flute & Saxophone & Composer
A master of the flute and saxophone, John Mills is a renowned composer and one of Austin’s most versatile jazz artists. As co-leader of Double Vision, John’s compositions and expressive playing add rich textures and melodic brilliance to the ensemble. With a career spanning over five decades, John’s contributions to jazz as a performer, composer, and educator have left an indelible mark on the Austin jazz scene.
Utah Hamrick – Bass
A bassist with a reputation for anchoring rhythm with finesse and depth, Utah provides the harmonic backbone of Double Vision. His ability to blend technical precision with soulful grooves makes him a vital part of the ensemble’s dynamic sound.
